almost complete woven belt!
measuring the warp
This workshop was run twice over the exhibition period. We did handweaving – backstrap weaving from scratch, without a fixed heddle. We used yarn and chopsticks to separate the yarn for weaving. The workshop took 3 hours, and the participants took home their weaving to complete at home.

I love the tradition of using a simple square of cloth to tie up your lunch things, use as mini tablecloth, look pretty etc. open a Japanese workplace fridge and you might find one of these inside, all wrapped up and looking like a present. and inside is lunch. I love lunch!

I got married in Japan but my friends and family live all around the world, so many of them couldn’t come to this ceremony. We made this quilt to include them. They made trees from fabric that we sewed together.
Trees came from California, New York, Berlin, the UK, Delhi, Korea and Japan.
The spaces between the trees make hearts.
Last minute, late comer tree sew-in.
We started back when it was cold. Here drying painted ones on the stove with Aibom.
These are the first ones that arrived at my house. It was very exciting and touching to receive the packages in the mail.
